Knight of St. Gregory ( 15 september 1999)

1928 obit 1st July, 2019. Harry was born the 6th child into a family of 8 children to parents Peter and Mary.  He decided to study for the priesthood in the diocese of Dromore.  After 5 ½ years studying at St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth he decided on a change of vocation.  

He decided to try accountancy as a profession.  He entered into a training contract with Crawford and Allen – Belfast. This firm developed into Price Waterhouse, Coopers.  He qualified in his final exams in 1954.  He held the position of Chairman of the Ulster Society of Chartered Accountants and was a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and chair of its Education Committee. Harry was a board member of N.I. Electricity and the Seed Potato Marketing Board for many years.

Harry maintained a very close connection with St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth which had such a formative influence in his life.  All educational institutions require finance for development of facilities.  Maynooth was no different.  Harry joined the Finance and General Purposes Committee in Maynooth.  He was delighted when the British Revenue accepted his claim of gift aid on his generous donation to the John Paul II Library St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth.  He was also a generous benefactor of this St. Peter’s Parish and a member for many years of its Finance Council.

Harry prayed the Divine Office – the breviary each morning and evening.  He explored and gave lectures on the spiritually of Cardinal Newman. Harry is survived by his sisters Rose Gogarty and Margorie McGarry, his brother Patrick and  24 nephews and nieces and grandnephews and great nephews and nieces.
