Celebrating 70 Years as a Borough, compliments John Dickson
1880 – 1954. Native of Co Derry. He served his apprenticeship in Ballymena and became a leading wholesale wine and spirit merchant. He owned the Northern Counties Hotel, Derry, Masscerene Arms Hotel Antrim, Glens of Antrim Hotel Cushendall, and another hotel in Portstewart. He also owned the Newry Mineral Water Company with distribution depots in Limavady and Omagh. He employed 250 staff. For several years he conducted an extensive tourist business with his own fleet of buses. He was mayor of Ballymena 1947/1948. Received the honour and insignia at a luncheon given by Archbishop D’Alton in Ara Ceoeli in Armagh in February 1948. President of the Ballymena Rotary Club.Died in Ballymena. Gravestone has the KCSG mentioned thereon.
