1884 - 1962 Chairman P J Carroll plc, tobacco manufacturers, which his grandfather founded. Resident at Kilineer, Drogheda, Co Louth. Knight of St. Columbanus. President Order of Malta 1958 – 1962 having been admitted to it in December 1946. Director of the Provincial Bank, Great Northern Railways, Irish Dunlop. The James Carroll Centre in Donore Road Industrial Estate was named in his honour. Its services were moved to a centre town location in Drogheda in 2012
