About me

1910 – 1999. Born in Woolwich of Irish parents. Official with Dublin Corporation. Educated in Bermuda and Synge Street CBS. On leaving school he served in the Royal Navy and served on HMS Hood. Subsequently he was a health inspector with Dublin Corporation during which time he co-wrote a book with Lawrence Gaffney entitled "Guide to Food Hygiene". He was a fellow of the World Health Organisation. During his time in the Corporation he joined forces with Victor Bewley (1912-1999) and Monsignor Feehily (obit 2010) on the Committee for the Settlement of the Travelling People. This association led to the development of Labre Park and Avila Park. This enabled travellers to live in tigeens with close proximity to schools, while still retaining their freedom to travel if they so wished. God father of an itinerant child. Concluded his career as Estates Supervisor of Dublin Corporation. Member of the Knights of St Columbanus, initiated 1956, holding the rank of Grand Knight. The ppresentation was made by Cardinal Casoroli, Secretary of State, in Rome in May, 1981. Buried, like so many other papal knights, in Deansgrange Cemetery
