Commissioned to Royal Lincolnshire Regiment served with the Gurka Rifles in India, Burma, French Indo-China, Malaya and Singapore and left the Army with the rank of Captain in 1949. Had the Military Cross, 1939-1945 Medal, Burma Star, Malaya Medal etc. After various UK based appointments joined P J Carroll as Personnel Manager in June 1961 and subsequently Group Personnel Manager. Council member of ANCO – Industrial Training Authority June 1976. Jim was a founder member and general secretary of the Armagh Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. The Council was established in 1962. He was Chief Brancardier and Secretary 1962 – 1989, President 1985 – 1989. He was conferred with his Papal Honour at the same time as Dr. Anthony Smyth, KSG, (Chief Medical Officer 1971 – 2003}. Admitted as a Donat of Malta in December, 1976. Presented at a function in the Ballymacscanlon Hotel by Tomas Cardinal O Fiaich.
